W. Craig Gilliam

Writing from the threshold where poetry, contemplation, and ordinary life meet.

W. Craig Gilliam writes contemplative poetry that invites us to slow down, listen more deeply, and notice what quietly opens within ordinary life.

His life has unfolded through ministry, teaching, and consulting—more than three decades of walking alongside individuals, leaders, faith communities, and systems through seasons of change, conflict, and transformation. That work continues to shape his poetry: an attentiveness to what lies beneath the surface, to the spaces between us, and to what becomes possible when we truly listen.

Craig’s writing explores beauty and sorrow, silence and presence, imagination and renewal. His poems often begin in the ordinary—a bird calling in the early morning, light moving across water, a moment of stillness—and follow what opens from there.

He lives in Louisiana with his wife, Martha, where life near the water continues to offer both inspiration and invitation. Their dog, Shadow, is always nearby.

His newest collection, Where time opens, asks a question at the heart of much of his work:

What becomes possible when we truly attend?

Step inside.

The world is still opening.

The world opens through attention and somewhere beneath it, time opens
